Who We Are

Launched in 2016, the Staying Alive citizen responder alerting service has been supported for years by institutional and public partners including the French Ministry of the Interior, the National Federation of French Firefighters, and health insurers.

Over the years, Staying Alive has become an established link in the chain of emergency response.

The Staying Alive app and its citizen responder service were built to reduce mortality from cardiac arrest, and are provided to the public and emergency services. They locate defibrillators anywhere in several countries including France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Croatia, UAE, Canada, Switzerland… and alert volunteers to assist people in life-threatening distress.

THE MANAGING TEAM

Dr Paul DARDEL

Founder & Honorary President

Fifteen years as an emergency physician with the SAMU, one improbable idea and one conviction: that is how Staying Alive started. Paul has run the association as a volunteer since 2010, with the citizen responder service as its spearhead. He opens doors, and pulls in behind him the people who take Staying Alive further than it was going on its own.

Loïc QUERUEL

President & Technical Director

Loïc has been the technical half of the project for fifteen years, as Technical Director and President of the association. iOS and Android apps, front office, APIs: he builds and maintains the lot, and hunts down the bugs the rest of us miss.

Laurent ISTRIA

Head of Deployment & Training

Laurent is the voice of Staying Alive for our partners and for everyone we train in first aid. As head of deployment and training, he travels the country persuading départements to adopt Staying Alive and teaching as many people as possible the actions that save lives.

Mélanie APPADOO

Head of Operations & Responder Programme

Mélanie sits at the centre of Staying Alive’s operations. She runs and grows our community of 500,000 citizen responders, and makes sure that nobody is left alone after an intervention, through the local coordinator programme she designed. When resources have to be found to make all of it possible, she works on that alongside Paul.

JavaScript, JSON, Kotlin, SQL: if those mean little to you, they hold no secrets for Erwan, our developer. Curious and methodical, he enjoys digging into a problem until it gives up its solution. The app’s bugs do not last long.
